|On 20 and 21 April 2017, DGACM hosted the Fifth Conference of the Universities that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations on cooperation in preparing candidates for the United Nations Language Competitive Examinations (MoU universities). Such conferences are commonly referred to as "MoU conferences".|
The 2017 MoU Conference marked the tenth anniversary of the founding of the MoU network and focused on the work of UN language professionals, the challenges faced by each branch of the language professions represented at the United Nations and the implications of those challenges for training.
The Conference provided a platform to exchange views between DGACM and MoU universities on the evolution of the United Nations language professionals’ profiles and ways of working. It also provided a unique demonstration of a variety of DGACM conference services and facilities and the skills of its staff.
The aim of the periodical MoU Conferences is to bring together representatives of DGACM and MoU universities, as well as other stakeholders, in order to:
- review collaboration within the MoU network and suggest new approaches to strengthen and improve that cooperation;
- provide an opportunity for partners within the MoU network to compare initiatives and methods in the fields of training language professionals, training of trainers (ToT), outreach and communication for training programmes, joint training activities and other related projects and to seek synergies where possible;
- discuss and agree on ways to align the academic training of language professionals to the needs of the UN.
